Beatrice Fox Auerbach (1887-1968)
President of G. Fox and Company; business leader and philanthropist (Inducted in 1994)
The residence was built in 1911 and was the home of Beatrice Fox Auerbach from 1925-1968. A third generation retailer, Auerbach became president of the G. Fox and Company in 1938. She expanded the business to thirteen locations, instituted fair labor practices and engaged in many philanthropic endeavors including a foundation that served, among others, college students. She sold the company to the May Department Stores Company in 1965. Her home is now the ASK House, named for Auerbach and her two daughers, Schiro and Koopman, at the University of Hartford (UH). Two other buildings at UH bear her name. The residence is located at 1040 Prospect Avenue in West Hartford.
