Eileen Kraus Scholarship Awardee 2019

Bayan Galal attended Woodland Regional High School, and served as the Student Body President and Board of Education representative. As a member of the Connecticut Student Advisory Council on Education, she voiced student perspectives on issues concerning Connecticut high schools. Bayan was the captain of Quiz Bowl and vice president of Math Team, competing at the state and national level. She recently represented Connecticut at the 2019 United States Senate Youth Program and was also inducted into her school’s Women’s Hall of Fame. Bayan is a double major in Molecular Biology and Global Affairs at Yale University and is pursuing a career at the intersection of healthcare and public policy.   Her winning essay was about global healthcare policy pioneer Helen Smits.
